If you have
a dripping faucet, you will probably not rest until you get that drip stopped.
Fixing the drip is a lot easier than most people think it is, and it can be
repaired easily.
First of
all, turn off the water supply to the tap, then turn on the spindles before
unscrewing them from the body, then use a tube spanner to remove the spindle
Then with a
knife blade, using the back of the blade, clean the seat of the body washer
just to be sure that the surface is flat and the channel is cleaned out.
Use a tap
reseater, which is a resurfacing tool, and resurface the seats that are located
in the recessed bodies while using a smooth and even pressure. Use a torch and
make sure that the seat is very clean and evenly flat all of the way around.
Take a vacuum and your little finger and just be sure that the area is
completely clean of brass shavings.
Now,
completely remove the spindle by unscrewing it, and then clean the seat of the
body washer with the blade of your knife. Next, clean the washer seat and the
outer thread of the bonnet with a wire brush. Now, you can screw a thread
cleaner into the bonnet in order to get any foreign matter out of the bonnet.
Then you
can clean the spindle thread with the wire brush and finish it off by wiping it
clean with a rag or a towel.
The next
step is to replace the 'O' ring, lubricate the threads on the bonnet and
spindle.
Next screw
on the spindle, place a new valve into the spindle. Turn off any other taps you
might have on, and then turn on the main water.
